We are proud to offer you Europe’s first Registered 200 hour Deaf Yoga Teacher Training course. This course will be taught by yoga teacher Graham Nolan and Sarah Scott, supported by Lila Lolling, founder of the Deaf Yoga Foundation. This course will certify you as a yoga teacher and will be taught using a combination of English with BSL interpretation and signed English.
After completing your course you will…
- Become a qualified yoga teacher for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (HoH) students.
- Gain confidence to lead a class.
- Learn the philosophy of yoga.
You will learn in the course…
1 – The human body
2 – How to use BSL and gestures to teach yoga
3 – Demonstrations to help you teach confidently
4 – How to find your own style to teach
5 – You will study Sanskrit for a deeper spiritual connection to yoga philosophy
6 – Your body, energy and chakras
7 – Meditation and mindfulness
8 – Asanas (Yoga poses)
9 – The best ways to work with groups
BSL level 2 (not required for people whose first language is BSL)
12 months yoga experience

200 hours Deaf Yoga Teacher Training will take place over the course of fourteen weekends:
Class times are 9:30am – 5:30pm with breaks

Course fee does not include:
- Parking / travel / accommodation
Once completing this course will be presented with a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training certificate of attendance from the Special Yoga organisation.
Graham Nolan – Image
Graham has a Diploma with the British Wheel of Yoga and a Diploma in DeafBlind Studies. He has been practising yoga and working in the field of Multisensory Impairment for 20 years. He is currently studying his Masters at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands on ‘Communication and Congenital Deafblindness’ – focusing on ‘Mindfulness and tactile communication’.
Sarah is partially Deaf and has been teaching Yoga for Deaf and hearing impaired people for almost 18 years. She is a qualified teacher and practitioner with Inner Yoga Trust and British Wheel of Yoga. Her yoga style is inspired from a wide range of teachings, including Sivananda Yoga, Satyananda Yoga, Yoga for Health Foundation, Iyengar Yoga, Inner Yoga Trust (Jenny Beeken), Gary Carter and teachers of Scaravelli’s approach to yoga.
Her practice is responding to physical, mental and emotional needs, to the seasons and moon cycles and space and place. As well as her Deaf Yoga classes, she has taught Deaf Yoga for staff members from DeafWorks, FYD, NDCS, Remark!, Old Church Balham, Sign Health Falcon Mews, Deaf Plus, DCAL, Oak Lodge School and the BBC.
What experience do I need for this course?
- You will require a BSL level 2 to participate in this course
- At least 12 months experience in practicing yoga.
