The Mindfulness for Children teacher training course takes a holistic approach towards discovering mindfulness and meditation in engaging ways for children between 4-12 years. You will explore how to support the nature of consciousness, build children’s resilience and heighten their self-confidence.

This course will prepare you to support children in discovering a greater sense of self-awareness throughout this four day course. By exploring  both the technical theories and using practical ‘hands on, minds on’ exercises, you will support children in developing healthy habits that will help them to self-regulate their behaviour.

Topics Covered

Please note the topics covered are provided as a guide on what to expect throughout the experience.

 

Topic 1 – The Intentions and Benefits of Mindfulness and Meditation

The course tutors will guide you through the history of mindfulness and meditation. Whether you are a parent, teacher or therapist, their guidance will provide you with the holistic knowledge to be prepared in various situations to bring the best out of the child.

 

Topic 2 – Breath and Voice Work

Develop an understanding of how to use sound, rhythm and chanting as a valuable part of the practise.

 

Topic 3 – Music and Movement

You will be guided through a series of music and movement practices that will become supporting tools in encouraging children to explore the depth of their attention spans.

 

Topic 4 – Visualisation

Various visualisation practices will be explored as a form of meditative play. An experimental approach will be adopted to help you find creative ways of supporting children in dealing with everyday pressures using visualisation.

 

Topic 5 – Cultivating Gratitude and Compassion

You will be shown specific teaching techniques to expand your ability to encourage gratitude, self-compassion and compassion for others around them.

 

Topic 6 –  The Nature of Consciousness

Your tutors will guide you through the concept of consciousness and how it can be nurtured within children.

 

Topic 7 – Tools to build resilience and self-confidence

You will be shown specific teaching techniques to expand your ability to encourage resilience and self-confidence.

 


Class Information

Our 4-day course generally runs over two weekends:

Sessions will generally take place on a 9:30am – 5:30pm schedule.

Your success in completing the ‘Mindfulness for Children’ course will be celebrated with a distinguished certificate of participation from the Special Yoga training centre of excellence.


Teaching Style

You will be guided through highly effective and accessible strategies for integrating the remedial advantages of Special Yoga methodology into the lives of children. This experience is learning to teach from the heart and not just from the book to explore ways of supporting children while deepening your personal practice. With these skills you could tailor various settings to the specific needs of the child or group you support.


Course Tutors

Dr Katya Langmuur

Katyayani, or Dr Katya Langmuur has fifteen years worth of experience in teaching meditation among her many other achievements. Armed with a PhD in twentieth century Hindu Studies, and as a university lecturer in Indian Philosophy and Religious Studies, Dr Katya Langmuur finds innovative and joyful ways of threading authentic traditional philosophies into modern ways of living.

Leading classes and workshops in Meditation, Chakra Meditation, Kirtan and Chanting for Babies and Toddlers over a number of years has heightened Dr Katya Langmuur’s dedication to making mindfulness and meditation accessible and inspiring to young children.

 

Emma Naisbett

Having worked as an education professional for over 20 years, Emma has an exceptional understanding of primary teaching across all key stages. Emma’s desire to support her young daughter, who was suffering with severe anxiety, sparked the beginning of a fulfilling journey. Emma teaches mindfulness in educational settings to children, teachers, parents, families and has also been a part of the Oxford University led MYRIAD project, which is investigating the impact mindfulness has on adolescents.


Useful Information

What experience do I need for this course?

This course is open to all, including people who do not teach yoga professionally. However it is recommended that you have some previous experience in a mindful practice. This could include (but is not restricted to) attendance of an 8 Week Mindfulness Training, a Vipassana retreat or ongoing personal practice.

Regular attendees of this course include but are not limited to:

  • Yoga teachers and yoga therapists
  • Mindfulness or meditation practitioners
  • School teachers and staff

Can I become a Yoga practitioner after completing this course?

Completing the ‘Mindfulness for Children’ course is a part of your journey towards supporting all children through Yoga and staying up to date with the latest practices and techniques. This is a CPD to enhance your existing yoga teaching skills. You will receive a Special Yoga Certificate of Accreditation after completing the course. The Mindfulness for Children course is recognised by Yoga Alliance and British Wheel of Yoga.
Can I practise professionally with this course?
As a training centre of excellence we are developing a Special Yoga practitioner development programme for those considering practising professionally. This will be discussed during your course.
What courses could I do after this course?
