Somatic Movement for Special Needs
Learn how somatic movement develops body awareness and proprioception, relieves chronic tension and muscle spasms, and improves the stress response in people with special needs. Suitable for practitioners with an interest in exploring the mind-body connection and how physical movement can regulate the nervous system through neuromuscular retraining.
This one day workshop will introduce you to the principles of Somatic movement and its applications for people with special needs, as well as self care for the practitioner.
Somatic movement views the body as a whole, or the Soma, integrating the sensory system with motor control. It is based in Hanna Somatic movement as developed by Thomas Hanna. It is a process of reprogramming the body and brain connections through targetted movements and conscious muscular contraction and release.

This one day workshop in experiential in nature, so that you can experience the movements in your own body. Once embodied, the applications of the movements are more easily understood.
Please wear loose comfortable clothing and make sure you bring plenty of layers so that you are warm and comfortable
The day will run from 9.30am to 5.30pm. Please come dressed comfortably to be seated on a yoga mat for the day. You are invited to bring your own yoga mat and props though we will have mats for those who do not have one.

This course is open to all, including people who do not teach yoga professionally. Attendees of this course may include but are not limited to:

Can I become a Special Yoga practitioner after completing this course?
Completing our course, Special Yoga for Children and Young People with Multi-Sensory Impairment, is a part of your journey towards supporting people with special needs, and to be equipped with the latest practices and techniques.
