The course was developed by Jyoti Jo Manuel who has led the path in the UK for the delivery of therapeutic yoga for children with special and additional needs for many years.
We believe that all children are special and that all children deserve to experience inner peace, joy, comfort and fulfilment of their potential and purpose.
Special Yoga for Special Children training provides what is needed to help those caring for and working with children with special needs to support the development of their potential.
As a participant, you will be guided through highly effective and accessible strategies for integrating the remedial advantages of the Special Yoga methodology into the lives of children with special and additional needs.
With these skills you will have the ability to tailor this therapeutic intervention in various settings to the specific needs of the child or group you support.
Special Yoga’s unique and mindful practice has supported thousands of children who are differently abled around the world. This comprehensive course is appropriate for sharing yoga with all children and young people with special and additional needs, including children with autism and ADHD, Down’s Syndrome, cerebral palsy, PMLD and other learning, developmental and physical challenges.
We welcome you to join this course, regardless of your yoga skills. If however, you are on a path to teaching Special Yoga professionally, then this is the first step you need to take to join Special Yoga’s development programme and become a professional Special Yoga practitioner.
The course is accredited by Yoga Alliance and ASDAN.
Special Yoga’s methodology includes the classical yoga practices of movement, breathing, deep relaxation combined with sound, rhythm, massage and sensory integration techniques.

Jyoti (Jo) Manuel
Founder of Special Yoga and a leading expert in Special Yoga for children and the creator of this course. Jyoti Manuel has devoted her life to increasing awareness, knowledge and practical experience in the therapeutic effects of Special Yoga and making the practice available to as many children as possible.
Teaching Style

Topics Covered

■ Topic 1 – Introducing the Special Yoga Practice
You will be provided with a background to the evolution of our practice and possibilities of Special Yoga. Whether you are a parent, teacher or therapist, we will provide you with the personal and practical knowledge to enter various situations ready to bring the best out of the child.
■ Topic 2 – Practitioner & Child
You will be guided through how to develop relationships with children and their carers. A positive intention will be established from the outset, and you will understand how to celebrate the child’s strengths to support them in embracing their potential.
■ Topic 3 – Yoga For Special Babies
Gain an understanding of how to use Special Yoga as an early intervention to support the potential of babies with special needs.
■ Topic 4 – Sound and Breathing Techniques
Develop an understanding of how to use sound, rhythm and chanting as a valuable part of the practice.
■ Topic 5 – Asanas
Asanas are the yoga poses. They help to realign, balance and strengthen the body. The course leaders will guide you through how to adapt poses for the different conditions, to build sequences and to nurture the potential within.
■ Topic 6 – Meditation and Mindfulness
Special Yoga methodology encourages a mindful practice in all aspects inviting deeper awareness of the body and control physically and emotionally.
■ Topic 7 – Specific Special Needs
You will gain a comprehensive range of practical and personal tools that are relevant to the condition of the child.
■ Topic 8 – Applying Special Yoga (includes live sessions)
A series of case studies and live sessions will provide you with a deeper insight into how core principles can be practically applied.
■ Topic 9 – Creating a Class
You will learn how to pose questions, challenge behaviours and become aware of a child’s range of abilities to help tailor your practice accordingly in both a one-to-one sessions and group settings.

Course Certificate
A Special Yoga for Special Children course certificate will be awarded with 100% attendance.
Useful information
The course will run on a 9.30am to 5.30pm schedule. Please do not schedule travel or other commitments at a time which will require you to arrive late or leave early.

Can I become a Special Yoga practitioner after completing this course?
Completing the course ‘Special Yoga for Special Children’ will be the first step towards building your knowledge to support all children with special needs.
