The number of young adults with depression aged 15-16 has nearly doubled since the 1980’s. It is a striking fact to face – but in taking this 5-day intensive course you will use modern research to encourage people aged between 13 to 19 years in living mindful lifestyles.
Discover the skills to encourage a greater sense of self-awareness in teenagers and help them to self-regulate their physical, emotional and psychological development throughout adolescence. You may also be surprised to find how the learnings will extend into your own lifestyle and self-growth.

■ Topic 1 – Introducing the Yoga Practice
You will be provided with a background to the evolution of our practice and the possibilities of Yoga. Whether you are a parent, teacher or therapist, we will provide you with the personal and practical knowledge to enter various situations ready to bring the best out of the teen.
■ Topic 2 – Physiological and Psychological Development
As you study current research around the development of teenagers your understanding of this age group will heighten. You will then be guided through how Yoga and mindfulness can support a teenagers development.
■ Topic 3 – Yoga in Schools
You will be guided through a variety of different styles to suit teaching yoga in schools. This will involve teaching yoga for a school play scheme, as an after-school club activity and ways to effectively integrate yoga as part of a lesson plan.
■ Topic 4 – Applying Yoga
A series of case studies will guide you through how the core principles can be practically applied.
■ Topic 5 – Creating a Class
You will learn how to pose questions, challenge behaviours and become aware of a teen’s range of abilities to help tailor your practice accordingly in group settings.
■ Topic 6 – Wellbeing Management
Ways of helping teenagers to relieve physical and emotional stress will be explored using stress management strategies and exercises. The resources used will empower you in encouraging teenagers to embrace the necessary tools to relax and develop self-confidence.

Sessions will generally take place on a 9:30 – 17:30 schedule.

With nearly twenty years worth of experience in practicing yoga and meditation, Veronika will bring her knowledge from teaching teenagers, delivering MBSR (Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction) courses and studying a degree in integrative psychotherapy to enlighten her students with benefits of yoga and mindfulness for this age group. You will be guided through highly effective and accessible strategies for integrating the remedial advantages of yoga methodology into teenagers lives. With these skills you will have the ability to tailor various settings to the specific needs of the teenager or group you support.
What experience do I need for this course?
You will need to have established a regular yoga practice for a minimum of two years (or 500 hours) to attend this course. If do not hold a professional yoga teacher qualification you will need to email us a reference from your yoga teacher confirming the hours, frequency and style of your yoga practice.
